disappears - pre language

DISAPPEARS have long been chicago's best kept secret.  quietly forming four years ago and self releasing a couple of singles. Then a live album recorded above a local hangout, the rainbo club.  Then with little fanfare they signed to kranky records on which they released two proper and killer Lps guider and lux. Then Disappears recorded one more live affair, live at echo canyon.  And yet still stalked around the edges of the Internet hype machine.    It wasn't really until steve shelley of sonic youth fame joined full time on drums that people began to notice DISAPPEARS..... and well its about fucking time....


they've always been an awesome, genre defying band and one of the best psyched out garage rock outfits kicking around...... so much so i suggest you get yr hands on everything they've released......  but their new lp PRE LANGUAGE is an even more infectious rock n roll effort.   the same driving motorik rhythm....the same intense spaced out guitars, with some epic drone and fuzz that amps up their post garage rock / post punk vibe.  and their new lp packs in even more aching sparse melody that floats through the layers of guitar... so its catchy in a dark twisted way...


people always reference bands like jesus & mary chain, the velvet underground, spacemen 3, sonic youth, and the stooges....but what if ten years from now we are all referencing DISAPPEARS...... i could see it happen.   but if not, we at least need to put them in a list with other bands that broke the rock n roll mold like shellac, jesus lizard, suicide and dinosaur jr...... they belong on such a list.  do yrslf a favor and check out DISAPPEARS now.....
