*fat possum records just released a best of from jay reatard's synth punk band, the LOST SOUNDS. entitled BLAC STATIC, the lp is comprised on songs hand picked by the rest of the band, alicja (also of black sunday and river city tanlines) and rich (from lover!).....
make sure you grab this album, cause like all things jay reatard, especially his lost sounds-era, are hard to come by...... though goner records may eventually reissue all the REATARDS lps...which if you havent bought the recent TEENAGE HATE reissue, go get now it........
*in the red records is set to rerelease some black lips titles in august. larry must of acquired the rights from vice, who didn't seem to interested in keeping the black lips titles in stock, for some undisclosed reason.
in the red will rerelease GOOD BAD NOT EVIL on lp, as well as issuing 200 MILLION THOUSAND and LOS VALIENTES DEL MONDO NEUVO (their live lp from TIJUANA) on vinyl for the first time. finally.
i hate it when you have to go buy a goddamn cd to get the album. (personally not a fan of buying music in the CLOUD.....but thats just me.....)
*also in the red is planning to release two new mark sultan lps this fall/winter. "whenever i want" and shortly there after "whatever i want".... a cd version will include both lps.......
mark sultan (aka bbq) is also rereleasing his $ lp on in the red, after acquiring the rights from last gang.......$ is a difficult lp to find, but it is out there and worth the money.........
*and the good tunes just keep coming.......hozac records is about to release lps by HEAVY TIMES and RADAR EYES, two of my fav chicago garage noisemakers...... and hozac is also planning a split 7 inch with the black lips and mark sultan.....probably later on this year...
*KING KHAN just played two shows with GRIS GRIS in chicago this weekend. we can only hope they stopped in a studio somewhere to record some jams.....
their sets were some spastic garage psych...with as many gris gris songs as king khan tunes....
much like the almighty defenders side project where the black lips were joined with king khan and bbq in the studio..... who doesn't like garage punk supergroups..........
and yeah do yerself a favor and pick up a GRIS GRIS lp.....
anyway these shows were fucking great.........if you missed them, watch the second show at the empty bottle below......
kid congo and the pink monkey birds are playing a few select dates this september to promote the new lp, gorilla rose, out earlier in year on IN THE RED records........
kid congo is not to be missed live, i promise, i mean he learned his chops playing with the gun club and the cramps, so he knows how to entertain....unlike some indie bands that bore you to death live.... i wont mention names.......
along with his backing band the pink monkey birds, kid congo is bringing the JIM JONES REVUE along for the ride.....which if you don't know them, play some soulful rockin' garage... the kind which you could just slip on to a nuggets mix and no one would be any the wiser........ click here to check out their 2010 lp, burning your house down....
and be sure to not to miss any of the dates below if yr anywhere close to these cities.....kid congo and jim jones revue will kill it every night......
and if yr in chicago, i'll see you at schubas......

Gun Club co-founder. Gunslinger for The Cramps. Six-string stylist for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
The legendaryKid Congo Powersnamed his new albumGorilla Roseafter the artist / performer.
As a teenage boy, Powers met Gorilla Rose in the emerging LA punk scene of the '70s through seminal weirdo band The Screamers. He recalls, "Gorilla was a close and constant presence and influence on The Screamers and me as a young pup. He was to The Screamers like Bobby Neuwirth was to Dylan-a jester of sorts, sparking many of their great lyric ideas. I still think Gorilla Rose is the most fabulous nom de plume in history. His unsung specter was in my mind a lot last year so I decided to title the album Gorilla Rose to honor his name and bring him into rock 'n' roll's ongoing conversation."
the gorilla rose lp is much like kid congo's more famous musical endeavors. his albums with the pink monkey birds are, to try and pinpoint it more clearly, are 80s post punk influenced garage with a good dose of swampy good ol' rock n roll.....
you just need to listen to kid congo to know what i mean. subtle and catchy at the same time, it's like you've heard these songs a million times and yet never quite heard anything like them before.
not very often does the garage scene offer up an album by someone with this much cred and talent..... fuck all of us young kids and the bands we are all in and like. kid congo has been showing us how to rock for quite some time, and you should listen up.......
but more than just feedback from art school kids, tv ghost has the propulsive drive of no wave filtered through some sort of nightmare post punk.....
fans of the intelligence, k-holes, chrome cranks and early sonic youth will love the aural destruction of tv ghost. lodging a eerie melody in a wall of skronk.... this is music that you fall into and can't escape from.....
tv ghost is playing hozac's BLACKOUT FEST and has two excellent lps on IN THE RED records, 'cold fish' and recently released 'mass dream'.
from a press release that i found floating around the internet....
"The legendary Kid Congo Powers, co-founder of the Gun Club, guitarist for The Cramps and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, will be releasing his new album with his group Kid Congo & the Pink Monkey Birds this spring. Titled Gorilla Rose, the album follows in the footsteps of the band's 2009 Dracula Boots with more ram-charged boogaloo, sleazy psychedelia and Chicano garage rock. In the Red Records is gearing up for the new album by releasing a series of oddball limited edition vinyl-only records by the band. The first of these releases dropped in the form of the "Five Greasy Pieces" subscription series. This is a very limited edition (250 of each) series of five different singles each containing two brand new tracks. Starting in January In The Red will be issuing one of these a month. The fifth and final single in the series will come with a handsome box in which all five will be housed. The only way to obtain these singles is to buy a subscription on the In The Red website. In March In The Red will be issuing a live LP by the band titled Live At The Prom which will be another vinyl-only limited edition release available exclusively online."
click here for tyvek's new lp nothing fits. their art damaged noise punk take on garage rock could only be done by kids living in the skeleton of detroit...... i love this lp..... destined for the best of 2010.....
check out what spacerockmountain had to say (btw a blog you should check out.....)
"Nothing Fits" is Tyvek’s second full length album debuting on In The Red. I’ve been waiting for this album since the summer time and to say the least I was pleasantly surprised at the raw intense sound. Tyvek has been touring these songs for the past year or so and I’ve heard them over and over again from either the massive amounts of live cds, rehearsal/demo tapes or live shows. When I first listen to these songs I knew the material was there but what wasn’t there was the studio recordings. Besides one or two live cds most of the releases that feature songs from “Nothing Fits” are intensely lofi and aren’t that pleasant to the ears. This is the studio adaptation of the various lofi live recordings/demos and its fucking fantastic! This scuzzy fuzzy detroit garage punk is so good it’ll make you shit your pants and bleed from your ears. They really worked on the quality of sound with this one and it makes up for all those recordings that weren’t on par. This is an album you want to turn up loud......"
