obnox - corrupt free enterprise

everything's been building up to this!!! OBNOX just unleashed his second proper lp, CORRUPT FREE ENTERPRISE, via 12XU RECORDS and it's a wild ride of blown out rock n roll that you definitely don't wanna miss out on...!!!!!!

after a slew of 7 inches and two 12 inch eps (one for PERMANENT and the other for 12XU), OBNOX poured everything he had into CORRUPT FREE ENTERPRISE, a double lp romp through his skewed, scuzzed up outsider punk take on rock n roll, r&b, hiphop and blues......!!!!  destroying and recreating the very soul of rock music all over again!!!!!!  which is exactly what we expect from the drummer/guitarist/noise monger extraordinaire who's played in so many monumental ohio bands over the years.....

taking cues from PUSSY GALORE, the CHEATER SLICKS, RON HOUSE's various outsider punk groups (THOMAS JEFFERSON SLAVE APTS, EGO SUMMIT, COUNTER INTUITS, etc), DIRTBOMBS, ACTION SWINGERS, FIREWORKS and THE OBLVIANS, OBNOX smashes punk, noise and rock n roll into one feedback soaked, warped grooved, rhythmic roller coaster through pop history like only he can on CORRUPT FREE ENTERPRISE!!!!  all 17 songs of the album unbridled and mind blowing as can be......

and i haven't mentioned yet OBNOX's killer covers of the CHEATER SLICKS' "ghost," TOM WAITS' "way down in the hole (aka the wire theme song)" EDDIE FLOYD's "good love / bad love" and the BASSHOLES' "swimming blues"......which succinctly triangulates where OBNOX falls musically!!!!!!   seriously no one is keeping the rowdy noise caked tradition of PUNK ROCK and ohio rock n roll debauchery alive like OBNOX is........

on top of that, CORRUPT FREE ENTERPRISE is epic enough to take on all those classic double albums.....think london calling, songs in the key of life, tago mago, bitches' brew, exile on main street, double nickels on the dime, trout mask replica......and claims a spot on that shelf for OBNOX next to those other musical touchstones.......  maybe that sounds a bit far reaching, but goddamn if CORRUPT FREE ENTERPRISE isn't a insta-classic........  i've already listening to this new lp by OBNOX more than any other album thus far this year.....or any recent year for that matter.......

so let's just say, THIS IS ANOTHER SERIOUSLY RECOMMENDED JOINT BY OBNOX.
one sure to make quite a few year end lists..... mine included!!!!!!!

chicago's misanthropic noise punks RUNNING are back with a brand new lp, VAGUELY ENTHIC, on CASTLE FACE RECORDS and it's one helluva loud, evil, feedbacking mess of corrosive psyched out/psycho rock n roll that you need to hear now!!!!!!!

on VAGUELY ETHNIC, RUNNING's terse  apoplectic, kraut bent art punk is reaching all new levels of sonic terrorism (much more dialed in and razor sharp than their previous lps on PERMANENT and CAPTCHA)....... all eight of these songs on the new lp simultaneously spit in yer face and stab you in the back....and even after the blood stains and hangovers are gone, you'll be back for more.......

RUNNING fucking smash hardcore, noise and post punk into one squalling wall of PSYCHEDELIC ENTRANCING FEEDBACK quite unlike anyone else.....think lighting bolt, clockcleaner, the fall, christian death, monoshock, coachwhips and unholy two all rolled into one furious malevolent firebomb of punk rock....but that still might be far from describing the screeching delinquency found on VAGUELY ETHIC....... just know, one listen and yer never gonna be able to live life the same.........

this one comes as highly recommended as they get!

KING BLOOD has returned!!!!!!!  yes i'm always ready for another dose of BLOWN OUT STONER PSYCH ROCK from the enigmatic guitar slayer KING BLOOD!!!!!!!   after two excellent lps, EYEWASH SILVER and VENEGANCE, MAN, i figured KING BLOOD was gonna disappear into thin air, never to release another song, but i was dead wrong.  WHITE DENIM tracked him down and strong-armed TWO NEW SONGS outta KING BLOOD, which comprise the brand new WHERE IS HE? EP.......

supposedly stripped down, repurposed guns n roses riffs, BOTH SONGS ON THE NEW 7 INCH ARE IN THE RED, FUZZED TO THE MAX, MIND MELTING TASTES OF GUITAR DESTROYING PSYCHEDELIC ROCK.........  unlike much else you can soak yer ears in......  KING BLOOD will transport you to another dimension, where everyone loves japanese psych, where lps on RICHIE RECORDS are on the radio constantly, where AFFLICTED MAN is more famous than hendrix. and where sabbath and blue cheer are the start of rock n roll, not elvis or the beatles.........and god damn i wish that was the universe we live in...........

so let's just say everyone needs this 7 inch now.

purling hiss - water on mars

PURLING HISS has been a staple around TINY GROOVES HQ for quite some time....ever since PERMANENT reissued their s/t lp in 2009, i've been cranking up their blown-out psych-melting guitar-mangling rock n roll explosions til my speakers crackle..... their back catalog is full of must-own lo-fi psych rock adventures, from HISSTERIA on RICHIE to PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT on WOODSIST and their self released tapes PAISLEY MONTAGE and DIZZY POLIZZY, PURLING HISS has been on a fucking killer tear......

so how stoked am i about the latest album, WATER ON MARS, to be released on DRAG CITY march 19th....?  holy shit i can't wait......!!!!!  surely one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2013!!!  PURLING HISS has laid low in the past year or so....only releasing a live at WFMU tape on FAN DEATH and before that 2011's RSD split with PUFFY AREOLAS and the LOUNGE LIZARDS EP on MEXICAN SUMMER.......  but that extra time hiding away has given PURLING HISS the solitude needed to concoct this fiery new lp WATER ON MARS, and now there's no looking back......

DRAG CITY has to be over-joyed for what i'm assuming is going to be the first of many PURLING HISS lps they'll release cuz WATER ON MARS is some full throttle rock n roll pyrotechnics..... taking aim to unseat J MASCIS or even THURSTON MOORE at the top of the underground guitar hero mountain, PURLING HISS unleashes nine tracks of absolutely balls-out psych rocking ferocity on the new long player.... 

a little more mid-fi than previous releases, WATER ON MARS is better off without the muddy production--all the guitar solos are right out front ready to sear your face.... and the songwriting is even more catchy than in the past.... it's a rare lp chock full of songs worth repeat listens.....

and if you thought neil young's ZUMA, dinosaur jr's BUG or built to spill's PERFECT FROM NOW ON were the last great statements of guitar shredding honest to god underground rock goodness, yr mind is gonna change after hearing this new one from PURLING HISS.... seriously.  very fucking recommended.
