call me lightning

call me lightning is one of those bands that never quite got the hype machine going full speed in their favor.  though they got signed to revelation records when the label was looking for good indie bands to sign beyond their normal roster of post hardcore, and got signed for a second album to frenchkiss, when it looked like that label was going to take over the world with the hold steady and les savy fav--call me lightning never got much attention.

perhaps it is their unorthodox mix of garage rock and dance influenced post punk, or that they're from milwaukee and not brooklyn.  maybe because they are a 21 plus band and not the all ages starlets like japanther and no age that seem to get all the praise from pitchfork et al.  anyway these guys are fucking great, and you should check them out any chance you get.

their two album are fun, noisy affairs that stand outside the genre box you could put them in.  so when everyone stopped listening to the rapture and such gang of four related indie rock, you could still spin their albums and not feel like it was still 2004.  they're fresh sounding, mixing elements of proto-punk with the late aught post punk.   go check out their myspace and take a listen.

they should have an album later this year, and it will most definitely make my top 10 list.

Hey I figured i'd comment to ur most recent post...
With effortlessness, my new computer is downloading all ur divshare links. What is the jam for mac filesharing? I used soulseek quite a bit on pc, but I dont exactly trust the link that I found for mac (it was spelled differently...) So a month ago when I noticed Wavves had a couple shows in NY i was pretty excited. Then vampire hands got added to the bill. Then these are powers got added to the bill for their tour return show. Pretty fucking boss. This show is keeping me stoked enough to get thru midterms/kick off of spring break...
Anyhow, any and all mac pointers of the music getting nature are much appreciated-J

oh yeah, did you check that new experimental dental school record? its legit free at their website. I was drunk for my first listening, and not super stoked on it, but I think its a winner nonetheless.

i forgot to get that experimental dental school album....going there in a second.

yeah i'm stoked to see the wavves/vampire hands in a little over a week. listening to the former right now. i can upload the album if you need.

i tend to use transmission for mac file sharing. seems to have no quirks, and once you have it btjunkie.org has most of the music you need to pirate (minus the more obscure things).....ben rouner uses it as well, and he seems to have no complaints. all the other kids i know who fire share like mad are pc users, so it don't matter what they use........

holy fucking christ. to think i almost shed a tear for the 60gbs of music i lost in the painfully slow death of my previous computer. digital library recoop will be a short order with the btjunkie/competent computer arrangement... its kind of like ive been standing in the rain, looking in at this really amazing party, but never quite having the extra scratch for the tux. well goddamit ive got the tux. Im not one for product love, but jesus fucking christ. 50,000 cheers for mac.

Im stoked that someone i know is doing a music-specific blog. Im working on a project (while with full acknowledgement of the fact that one cant really patent web content) I am not quite ready to divulge the specifics of but would love for you kids to be a part of in the near future. Im taking a web programming class wherein ive met a patent lawyer, who is cool as could be, coupled with a highly knowledgeable web dev. professor, who are down with this particular yet-to-be-done in the broad world of music on the internet project. Anyway, i ramble and babble on. when logistics are logisticated, yalls be the first to know. Any and all good links for albums will be highly appreciated! Taste will always trump volume, but goddamit youve got both of those!

Jam on it!
