the TESTORSwere the band that was too punk to get in the history books..... formed in '75 in nyc and part of that now famous CBGBs and Max's Kansas CIty scene, they've always been overlooked by rock n roll critics and fans.... maybe its because they never signed to a label. or maybe it was because the TESTORS were even more raw, loud and destructive than the Dead Boys..... who knows...... but sonny vincent and his band the testors ought to hold a place in yr heart next to johnny thunders and the heartbreakers......they are the original trashy garage punk band....

you need to know about one of favorite bands..... RUNNING.....
think psych punk on speed. or maybe art bent noise core.RUNNING is an incendiary blast of rock n roll akin to smashing lou reed's "metal machine music" into the stooges and then smashing that combo into suicide....they remind me of lightning bolt, clockcleaner, pink & brown, ex-models, the liars, and mi ami all rolled into one....but i can't describe RUNNING without doing them justice. you just need to hear them now.....
RUNNING just get up on stage and blow yr fucking mind with a blown out mix of noise, punk, kraut and hardcore..... if yr face ISN'T melted after hearing RUNNING, you probably need to go buy a cd at walmart......
RUNNING started out a couple of years ago by releasing a few tapes, and then went on to unleash a s/t debut on PERMANENT records. then they followed with a couple more tapes and a split 7 inch with LOOSE DUDES... and now via CAPTCHA records, we'll get their new lp, ASSHOLE SAVANT...... rumored to be one of the best releases this year.... i highly suggest you grab their new 12 inch when it comes out...... nobody plays noise punk like this.....fucking entrancing.........
ASSHOLE SAVANT is set to be released on RECORD STORE DAY 2012...... so make sure you grab a copy then...... very limited pressing is likely....... i know permanent and reckless records will definitely have copies......
this is will be on my best of list for 2012 for sure..... RUNNING is one of the best bands in the very much unheralded garage / punk / noise scene here in chicago......

the K-HOLES bounced through chicago on the way outta of austin after SXSW.....and man i was blown away....i hadn't seen them since BLACKOUT FEST last year, and they've gotten even better and more sinister.......K-HOLES have a new lp DISMANIA due out may 1st on HARDLY ART records.....which i can't wait to get my hands on...and if their show at the empty bottle is any indication, it'll be on my best of list at the end of the year.......
they were joined by BEZOAR, fellow brooklynites and noise-mongers, as their openers..... BEZOAR plays stoner metal noise psych that ought to be filed away near the WHITE HILLS and LITURGY in yr record collection..... a band that i hope to hear more from in the future....... quite epic and rock n roll......
THE MEN stopped through chicago this past wednesday to play everyone's favorite dilapidated warehouse space on the south side of chicago, Treasure Town..... shows there are always quite awesome and this one was no exception.....
you can't go wrong with two amazing band from brooklyn in a spot where you can bring yr own booze.....and i can't say this enough, THE MEN are a band you definitely need to see live..... go buy their new lp OPEN YOUR HEARTfrom SACRED BONES right now......

last friday, chicago was treated to quite a show at the empty bottle.... france's MAGNETIX and brooklyn's X-RAY EYEBALLS..... both fresh outta the wild times at SXSW.....
MAGNETIX has a freshly released lp on SLOVENLY records entitled DROGUE ELECTRIQUEand fans of spastic mutant garage rock ought to take notice...... they mash punk, garage, sludge, surf and new wave keys into one throbbing noisy mess..... after many listens to DROGUE ELECTRIQUE i still can't wrap my head around it, but i love it even more because of it..... fans of other weirdo french rockers like FEELING OF LOVE and CHEVEU need to check out MAGNETIX now.....go buy their new lp here.... and well they were quite the openers for TINY GROOVES' fave dark garage rockers X-RAY EYEBALLS......
X-RAY EYEBALLS are touring in support of their excellent new album, SPLENDID SQUALOR.....and if you loved either of their singles or their NOT NOTHING lp from last year, you know their new songs are just as much trashy fun as before..... nobody wallops you with gothic new wave soaked garage rock quite like these guys..... lo-fi spooky rock n roll jams that always float around in my head...... make sure you catch X-RAY EYEBALLS live anytime you get the chance and go buy their new lp here......
