but maybe with his latest INTELLIGENCE lp "EVERYBODY HAS IT EASY BUT ME" he'll finally get his due...... i mean he's been a stalwart of the garage rock scene since drumming for the A FRAMES, and this is the seventh INTELLIGENCE full length to date...... not to mention joining THE OH SEES as a full fledged member and playing with WOUNDED LION...... i highly recommend any project he's been involved in and IN THE RED has released nearly every album he's given them.......
but i think "EVERYBODY HAS IT EASY" might just be the icebreaker people need to creep into his noisy garage rock world....... the lp gets frantic, mellows out, speeds up, hits the sweet spot of indie rock, before careening back into garage punk territory and it keeps twisting and turning every which direction.....exploring more sonic territory in one twelve inch record than many bands do in the whole career...... highlights include the stripped down rocker THE ENTERTAINER..... the punk burner, EVIL IS EASY, the frenzied (THEY FOUND ME IN THE BACK OF) THE GALAXY and a cover of LITTLE TOWN FLIRT with Shannon of SHANNON AND THE CLAMS........
it's an angry, fun, puzzling and cathartic album all at the same time...... i wasn't sure what to make of it the first listen through, but it's quickly grown on me........ for sure one of the top lps of the year.....
