cheap trick.

occasionally i revisit bands that i forget how much i love.  cheap trick is one of them.

amanda and i picked up a clean copy of heaven tonight recently and that kicked started the classic rock party at our apartment this week.  everyone ought to at least pick up at budokon, their live album from 1979.

like most bands they strayed during the 80s, so if you happen by their s/t, in colour, heaven tonight, at budokon, or dream police, pick them up.  otherwise just leave the LPs in the used bin at your local record store.

but i would insist that everyone has one cheap trick LP in their collection.  this is power pop at its best.  arena rock done right, not your bloated journey or rush jams, more mc5 than boston.  these guys for the most part are just remembered for the song i want you to want me, but cheap trick really is hours and hours of bouncy rock fun...

for some reason, cheap trick reminds me of tom petty, prob b/c of the era/proximity on classic rock stations... but I heard "dont come around here no more" or whatever the title of that tom petty song is, and realized just how shameless my love of this segment of late 70's/early 80's americana is, and how amazing that song in particular is. Also, my tentative 2nd project practices in the same building as The Rapture, whom I met briefly, later in the day after I walked by their door and was like 'isnt it a little too soon for a new york band to be covering rapture songs?'; come to find it was them! Im mostly fond of Mirror, but I was a wee bit starstruck nonetheless...
oh yeah, check out this foxy solo-plays every instrument-lady at myspace http://www.myspace.com/catwalktrash ;
methinks you would dig the lofi/foxiness and such.

I think this is the Bushwick practice space you're speaking of?

And, don't you (J or A) have a Cheap Trick shirt?

Why am I asking so many questions?

no- the one by the Market is yet-to-be-named project # 1's practice space (of which we're one of only two bands who use the basement below two reeeeealy good venues; down the road this will be invaluable for shows and such)-the y.t.b.n. project #2's practice space is over in- you guessed it-W________g... If I dont say it out loud, then quite frankly, it wont be a part of my reality. Kind of like beetlejuice, or the candyman.

Oh yeah, sorry to stray so far from cheap trick, but another one person band I think yall'd dig is myspace.com/theblankket -some more good takes on Boss covers too. I got hip to this cat via a radio station, whereupon I was like 'WTF? That's the most fucked up and amazing version of Outkast's Hey ya'. I almost crashed my car it was that good. Unfortunately, that song isnt up on the myspace, but its all pretty damn good.

Yes I own a copy of "In Color". If you come across this record, the real gem isn't I Want You to Want Me, but rather the blouses they are wearing on the inside cover. Not quite a Prince caliber of blouse, but more like florescent silk skin candy.
