psychedelic horseshit promote cassette love and their upcoming lp

bands sometimes love to hate each other. the dandy warhols versus the brian jonestown massacre. oasis versus blur.

but the most amusing rivalry is psychedelic horseshit's animosity towards wavves. the much hyped wavves keep the DIY jams coming yet, psychedelic horseshit keeps it real lo-fi shitgaze noise-centric. and you gotta love them for it. no abandoning the aesthetic and no in-roads to those kids who only pick up on the trends. i mean to say, i know what makes psychedelic horseshit loath wavves for.

anyway, they can't be too pissed. psychedelic horseshit just signed to fatcat records and has a new lp "laced" coming out in may. now they're in the ranks of animal collective, black dice and sigur ros. take that wavves.....(fat possum might be cool, but fatcat is more hip?)

to celebrate and build the hype, fatcat records posted a link to psychedelic horseshit's 2010 cassette release, acid tape. click here to grab it for free.

and bring on the noise....... can't wait for the new lp to drop. maybe 2011 is the year for these kids finally.......

up and comers: two tears

The TWO TEARS is the solo project of Kerry Davis of the Red Aunts (Epitaph and Sympathy for the Record Industry), one of my fav garage punk bands of the recent past. Kerry also recorded with Mick Collins of the Gories/Dirtbombs as The Screws.

TWO TEARS has a new seven inch slated for release this week on KIND TURKEY RECORDS. This is Kerry's latest single and follows her early 2010 single on Windian Records. This single features 3 of Kerry's raddest garage rockers. Three songs that were written and recorded in 3 different continents (The specific cities they were written in were Paris, Dubai and New York City). Art was designed by Kerry herself, and is hand numbered. Limited to 500 copies. First 100 on Pink/White mixed vinyl. Single will be available on Itunes, Amazon, Emusic and other MP3 retailers when the release date comes.

Click the link below for a listen..... tiny grooves highly recommends finding this 7 inch. enjoy.

LA WEEKLY had this to say of TWO TEARS "The rise and fall of the ’90s band the Red Aunts is almost a Tinseltown cliché. When the Red Aunts first got together, they had an organic, uncontrived charm and lo-fi enthusiasm that made up for the fact that none of them could really play their instruments. If nothing else, they seemed to be in on their own joke. But, as so often happens, once they got coverage in Flipside and attracted the attention of major labels, they became just as serious and pretentious as the groups they used to lampoon. By the time the Red Aunts broke up, they still couldn’t play their instruments, but they’d nonetheless developed outsized rock-star egos, and the joke was now on them. The band’s best musician and songwriter, Kerry Davis, dropped out of sight before moving to New York, where she eventually reinvented herself in the raw, primitive garage-punk combo Two Tears. Their debut CD, Little Tea, is far more tuneful and catchy than anything the Red Aunts ever released, as Davis strums and sings sly, stripped-down anthems like “2nd Worst Girlfriend in the World” and “Up in My Tree.” Two Tears play garage rock, sure, but not in the literal, slavishly derivative style of retro groups like the Hives and the Fuzztones. Instead, Davis’ dark-&-fuzzy rambles are closer in spirit to such art-garage sonic reducers as the Cheater Slicks, the Oblivians, and the Bassholes. (Falling James)"

The Treasures of Long Gone John

The Treasures of Long Gone John is a feature-length documentary film by Gregg Gibbs that chronicles the eccentric art and musical obsessions of indie record producer and self-described "anti-mogul", Long Gone John. The product of a troubled childhood, John found success through the establishment of the record label, Sympathy for the Record Industry. During the past seventeen years he has single-handedly released over 750 records by over 550 bands and helped launch the careers of The Oblivians, The Dwarves, The White Stripes, Rocket from the Crypt, and The Donnas, among many others.

Along the way, he has compulsively amassed a vast collection of art and pop ephemera, in addition to starting the Necessaries Toy Foundation.

The film explores the work of several of the artists he collects and collaborates with, including: Todd Schorr, Mark Ryden, Camille Rose Garcia and Robert Williams. The film also features a wall-to-wall soundtrack of over 40 bands with artwork by 20 artists, including original animation and time lapse photography. THe Treasures of Long Gone John is an enticing trip through the independent record industry and the Los Angeles "lowbrow" art scene.

up and comers: conspiracy of owls

Conspricary of Owls are one of the new indie/garage bands on Burger Records that you ought to pay attention to.....

dream/shoegaze/psych jams from detroit......

lost FM radio trasmissions from the kinda 70s rock station that we all wish existed. a world where todd rundgren and big star were chart toppers and not genesis and yes.......

CIty Beat had this to say "Conspiracy of Owls, a band with a name that screams Emo (it’s actually the title of a track from Robert Pollard’s Fiction Man album) but whose musical output couldn’t be more unexpected.

Fronted by Bobby Harlow, lead vocalist for The Go, the Detroit Garage Rock outfit that counted Jack White as a guitarist before his ascendance, Conspiracy of Owls dabbles in sounds befitting Detroit’s rich and varied history on its debut album, Ancient Robots. Incorporating everything from Space Rock atmospherics and ’60s bubblegum Pop sweetness to ’70s lysergic Rock swirl, Dub beat madness and Baroque Pop ambition, COO shimmers and sighs like an impossible focus group made up of the Beach Boys, Todd Rundgren, Spiritualized, Kula Shaker and Nada Surf trying to come up with a committee song that will faithfully represent every decade since the British Invasion.

With an astonishing passion and precision, Conspiracy of Owls accomplishes that and so much more on Ancient Robots; the album’s title cut sounds like a gorgeous Pop collaboration between Roy Wood and Brian Wilson, detailing the melancholy lives of the mechanized human drones that built and maintained Detroit until it fell into corporate disrepair and economic ruin. It’s a lofty musical and lyrical premise, but Conspiracy of Owls nails it with unerring accuracy and a beautiful Pop veneer, a simultaneous glance back at Detroit’s musical past and an exciting vision of its future."

deerhoofed on a tuesday night.

go see DEERHOOF tomorrow at the bottom lounge (2/15). you won't be disappointed. and it's much better than whatever lame valentine's day plans you had tonight.......
