double dagger on tour.

check out my friends double dagger as they tour the nation in support of their brand new thrill jockey release MORE.

for the kids in missoula, i tipped nolan and bruce off on the badlander, so josh vanek is promoting their show and it should be a good time.  the west coasters, no coasters and the brooklyn kids all have their chance at seeing double dagger as well.

double dagger is awesome live, often playing on the floor instead of the stage.  make sure you see them and pick up one of their rad t-shirts (the kids are all graphic designers)....and if anyone wants to see them in chicago in july, let me know............

king khan and his shrines.

king khan and the shrines were amazing last night.  haven't dance my ass of like that since last summer (when i was DJing).

king khan manages to channel james brown through manic garage rock.  the shrines give him a funky horn section which brings the music more full tilt than most indie bands can muster.  the sold out show became the biggest hipster dance party i've seen in awhile, and not that awkward we're going to dance to crunk kinda of dance party, but a complete loss of inhibition kind of dancing craze.......

king khan's live show is twice the intensity of his LPs, and his albums are in constant rotation at the apartment.  you have to get out to see him by any means necessary.........

and to top off the already awesome show, mark sultan (aka bbq who has two albums with king khan as side gig for both of them) opened up.  mark sultan's forthcoming subpop album will blow you away.  garage punk influenced by doo wop soul and rockabilly.....check out sultanic verses on in the red records or buy his new subpop seven inch.  you will not be disappointed.........

deerhoofed.

deerhoof was amazing.  amanda and i went to their show thursday night and i can say i haven't been that impressed by a live show in quite some time.  tiger masks, couple of awesome cover songs, instrument switching, hilarious stage antics, and playing nearly their entire new LP offend maggie.  i want to see them play every month at least......

the show was opened by new anticon records kids serengetti and polyphonic (not so good, but at least interesting idm based hiphop) and maps & atlases (angular indie pop that sounds like they could be the next over hyped vampire weekend)....

make sure to get to any remaining deerhoof tour dates if you can.....well worth it......

sonic youth: the eternal (the re-edit)

i posted a torrent of the new sonic youth LP the eternal here yesterday, and now the post is gone.  i guess big brother got me again.  perhaps soon tinygrooves will be killed by google for piracy.  who knows......

anyway buy the LP, it's fucking amazing.  if you preorder it now you can stream the LP til it ships.....and preordering also gets you dibs on tickets for their summer tour.  so its worth it.

anyway, sorry to matador and sonic youth.  i didn't want to piss you off.  i'm just one of those superfans that's too poor and excited to preorder the release.  i promise i'll buy it......

peter brotzmann

it's so nice to live in a city where the jazz scene is still happening, and yesterday i got to see peter brotzmann play with his trio.  so amazing.  one of my fav contemporary sax players (fred anderson and ken vandermark are the others).

i only wish i could go see him play every weekend..........
