thanks HOZAC RECORDS for throwing the always fantastic BLACKOUT FEST......
one of the highlights had to be ROKY ERICKSON of 13th FLOOR ELEVATORS fame closing out the fest on sunday. roky is a legend and he pretty much invented psychedelic garage back in the 60s.... he's definitely on my list of fave musicians of all time... it was fucking awesome and unbelievable to see him in person and at one of my favorite venues, the empty bottle......
the show was way sold out and everyone so excited last night.....

WINDIAN RECORDS has been on quite a roll lately. they just reissued two TESTORS singles and a PENETRATORS lp as well as releasing the awesome debut album from SPIDER FEVER ..... and on top of all that they've compiled a two lp collection of hits from the sadly overlooked ohio proto punkers, THE BIZARROS...... this new comp is highly recommended to all who love their rock n roll as trashy, angular, weird and lo-fi as can be...... and especially suggested if you love those killed by death collections.....
THE BIZARROS formed in akron, ohio in the mid 70s and immediately set out to destroy what mainstream rock n roll had become, much like PERE UBU, THE STOOGES, TELEVISION, THE NEW YORK DOLLS, THE TESTORS and CRIME, THE BIZARROS broke the rules and set the stage for almost all of what we call punk, post punk and indie rock these days...... its just too bad no one gives them much credit until now......
THE COMPLETE COLLECTION 1976 - 1980 includes their singles on CLONE RECORDS (ohio's late 70s / early 80s haven for strange new music) and their one full length lp that oddly enough MERCURY RECORDS put out in 1979... as well as some demo and live tracks that were to become their second lp that never came to fruition....
perhaps now their legacy can be cemented into the true history of the riotous underground rock n roll we all love.......all thanks to WINDIAN......
The Hozac Hookup Klub subscription series is always more than worth the money to sign up, especially with this latest round of stellar underground rock. The cream of the crop has to be the new single from Slug Guts, entitled "Stranglin You Too".
Slug Guts' play stomach wrenching swampy gothic noise rock that owes much to fellow Australians Birthday Party and the Scientists as well as early Christian Death. Last years epic noise rattled Lp "Howlin Gang" on Sacred Bones was an ear blistering effort that ought to have awoken fans looking for lost Swans albums / demos out of their stupor, and Slug Gut's new single is even better than that.
All four of these tracks crammed on to "Stranglin You Too" continue on in the abrasive murky post apocalyptic rock vibe of their earlier releases. "Sucking Down" is like a schizophrenic homeless man on the corner howling about the evils of the world and its eminent end. "Coathanger Blue" and "Old Sores, New Boys" shows their love of old Touch and Go records and thrashy mid tempo guitar rock. But it's really the title track, "Stranglin You Too" that nails the creepy vibe down. Kinda like a slowed down Murder City Devils mixed with a vitriolic blast of blues based feedback, the kind that the Chrome Cranks are known for. There are few contemporaries for such wailing noise, sax explosions and angular minor chord riffs, but Slug Guts have like minds in bands like Pop. 1280, Nones and K-Holes. And if you like any of those bands, you definitely need to check out Slug Guts.

It's some of the spookiest sputtering primal rock of the year.
TY SEGALL always tears down the house when he plays CHICAGO and last thursday was no different.... he fucking destroyed LINCOLN HALL, which was packed to the rafters and excitedly chaotic...
...and of course it was with such a stacked bill....opening for TY SEGALL was BITCHIN' BAJAS, THE STRANGE BOYS and WHITE FENCE..... all of which are faves here at tiny grooves......
plus not only did ty segall play songs off his new SLAUGHTERHOUSE LP, he did a short set with white fence playing songs off their new collaboration lp HAIR..... and all of it was so awesome...
i wish i had captured the whole night on my iphone, but i had too much fun hanging out with all the local garage rockers who were out that night.......
psychotic garage rock organ.....!!!!! why yes, it's QUINTRON AND MISS PUSSYCAT......probably the strangest duo in all of the rock n roll world...... yet so entrancing and fun..... a live show not to be missed...... so in case you did skip the show on saturday night at the empty bottle with PIERCED ARROWS, you can watch it all below....... long live weirdo rock n roll..........(footage by sadlypanda).....
PIERCED ARROWS just played the EMPTY BOTTLE this last saturday night with QUINTRON AND MISS PUSSYCAT and they killed it as usual......
