follakzoid - ii

SACRED BONES has just released what may one of the best psych/krautrock/experimental albums of the year from chile's FOLLAKZOID, entitled simply II.......

this is haunting motorik psych rock that'll for sure induce a trance-like state of mind......
gusts of droned guitar, swirls of synth, slow building yet hurricane force bass grooves and a drummer that pulls together the thundering elements of the band, just in time to let the songs rip and drag you deep into the middle of the chaos...... FOLLAKZOID gently lead you into their new album, but by track two, you'll completely hooked, maybe even before the opening song is over....forever destined to be a junkie coming back for hit after hit of their new propulsive otherworldly psych explosions...

fans of CAVE, WOODEN SHJIPS, CAMERA, LUMERIANS and VERMA will NEED to dive head first into the turbulent waters of FOLLAKZOID's stormy brew of psychedelic experimental rock......

i just can't stop spinning this new FOLLAKZOID lp and i know it'll be the same for you......
totally recommended and one of the best lps i've heard all month long......
grab your copy now from SACRED BONES !!!!!!!!!!

thee oops - happy charlie 2x7in

I always have to ask myself where and how Slovenly finds such awesome completely unknown European bands on a constant basis (Acid Baby Jesus and JC Satan for example).  Who knows, really?

But they've done it again, this time with a too fast to live, too young to die blast of scuzzy punk rawwk from Italy's THEE OOPS  Hardcore punk at its pure essence, this double shot double 7 inch, HAPPY CHARLIE, is raging fucking speed addled mayhem I haven't heard since Black Flag and Minor Threat.

Holy shit, this one's a keeper.  This one's even more in your face than their previous album, Taste of Zimbabwe.  With a punk so furious, you'll be flipping this record over and over and over again non stop, shotgunning PBRs in between sides, and maybe even forming your own mosh pit if you have too.

This is a punk rock party boiled down to four sides of LOUD RIOTOUS PUNK ROCK just like it should be.  (there's even an early beastie boys cover to keep the riot going.)

Thee Oops might just be the lost delinquent child of the early 80s west coast punk scene.  If you have albums from the Germs, Fear, JFA or Negative Approach, grab this Happy Charlie EP now.

Punk rock is still alive and frothing at the mouth.
thank god......

white wires - wwiii

seems like there's never enough time to listen to all the good music that comes out.....every day there's a new lp, single or music video from old favorites to young upstart new bands all vying for my attention.....and in this musical overload, sometimes good albums get overlooked.....  this was the case with the new WHITE WIRES lp WWIII out late last summer on DIRTNAP RECORDS......  if you've been reading tiny grooves for any amount of time, you know the white wires' power popped garage punk is some of the catchiest and most addicting rock n roll being played either side of the us/canadian border......so it's more than a shame that it took me so very long to post on the new album....

these ottawa kids just won't slow down or back down, and their third lp is chock full of more sugary sweet punk anthems to sing along to at the top of yer lungs.......   taking their cues from bouncy punks heroes such as the undertones, adverts, ramones and the jam as well as the classic power poppers like the shoes, the records, the knack, the speedies and the romantics, white wires craft garage punk equivalent to cocaine for yer ears.......try not to pogo around while listening to this new album......

highly recommended, just like everything else the white wires have released........

and super suggested for those infatuated with the mean jeans, steve adamyk band, bad sports, needles//pins, mind spiders, barreracudas, games, carbonas and jay reatard.......
ie, anyone who needs their punk over caffeinated, melodic and fun......

LISTEN TO WWIII BELOW.....

outside world - seaside nowhere

outta the ashes of BRAIN IDEA has risen the newest must hear band from the chicago scene, OUTSIDE WORLD..... who play a scuzzed-up jangle-popped indie rock that'll get you humming almost instantaneously...... NIGHT PEOPLE has just released OUTSIDE WORLD's second tape, SEASIDE NOWHERE, and man oh man does yr boombox need this ep now......

i haven't heard a noisy infectious indie rock killers like this in quite some time..... indebted to kiwi pop, 80s college jangle and 90s slacker rock, this tape just won't leave my stereo..... and i expect nothing but good things from OUTSIDE WORLD down the road....so totally crossing my fingers for a proper debut long player sometime this year.....

if you could take husker du, the clean, sebadoh, pavement, soft boys, gbv, the bats and superchunk and smash them into one band, you'd get OUTSIDE WORLD.......  fuzzed up basement indie rock jams like the old days before the arcade fire's of the world made "indie" go mainstream, soundtrack car commercials and bore you to death..... (sorry but that's my feeling about most indie rock bands these days.....)

recommended for those into fresh and onlys, boomgates, woods, the bitters, heavy times, kurt vile, sic alps, the mantles and radar eyes......ie, anyone who needs a dose of unbridled lo-fi anthemic rock n roll in their lives....

grab this tape from NIGHT PEOPLE now.....
it's super limited..... and won't be available for very long........

listen to a few tracks off the new tape,

the undertones - here comes the summer

THE UNDERTONES wrote what are perhaps two of the best rock songs of all time, TEENAGE KICKS and HERE COMES THE SUMMER...both from their self titled debut record from 1979... a record that's hands down a punk rock classic, if not one of the best two minute three chord chainsaw pop lps of all time.....

the undertones didn't stick around for very long, but they left in their wake a slew of power popped punk singles that not only i can't ever get enough of but remain fresh as they day they were written......

if you don't know about the undertones yet,
now is the time to introduce yerself......

watch the BBC documentary HERE COMES THE SUMMER: THE STORY OF THE UNDERTONES below in its entirety -

velvet underground & nico by castle face and friends

only CASTLE FACE RECORDS could assemble enough awesome psych / garage bands together in one place to cover such a classic album as VELVET UNDERGROUND AND NICO.....

with reinterpretations by Kelley Stoltz, Warm Soda, Ty Segall, Blasted Canyons (featuring Jeremy Cox of Royal Baths), White Fence, The Fresh & Onlys, Burnt Ones, The Mallard, Here Comes the Here Comes, K Dylan Edrich, and Thee Oh Sees, CASTLE FACE AND FRIENDS have put together one helluva catchy never-gonna-leave-your-turntable cover album of the band all these bands are obviously way way indebted to.....

a project like this wouldn't usually be my thing, but VELVET UNDERGROUND AND NICO BY CASTLE FACE AND FRIENDS is chock full of essential covers from the best of the best right now in the american garage scene........ and getting bands like the oh sees and white fence to cover velvet underground songs? yeah well of course i'm gonna be into it.....

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.......to say the least
