magic jake & the power crystals - s/t

MAGIC JAKE AND THE POWER CRYSTALS is just the shot of rock n roll adrenaline you need to speed through the week......

lead by MAGIC JAKE, the bass player of KING TUFF's awesome band, and joined by BOBBY HARLOW of THE GO and CONSPIRACY OF OWLS with a few other rowdy detroit rock n roll cohorts, MAGIC JAKE AND THE POWER CRYSTAL is a wild ride through sloppy fun power pop, garage rock antics and motor city punk rock chaos.......

their self titled album came out as a small pressing of cassettes last year on BURGER and the few people with tape decks were blown away......but now this riotous bunch of spastic catchy songs is available on vinyl for the first time...... and it's waaaaaayyyyyyyyyy recommended!  i was expecting much from this record when i threw it on the turntable, but holy shit every song is your new favorite jam.......  go buy MAGIC JAKE's s/t from BURGER now before it's out of print and you regret not having it for that next night of all night partying.........

king tuff - s/t lp (subpop)

KING TUFF is back with another solid lp of power popped mutant garage rock gems....and it's so good that it's doesn't need a title....and so fun, sub pop records jumped at the chance to release it...

king tuff has been kickin' around the country for the past couple of years, releasing a single here and there and playing some shows, but this is his first album since 2008's WAS DEAD, that's considered a classic to some folks like me......

we did get a lp via his other band HAPPY BIRTHDAY awhile back, but KING TUFF is quite the unique experience.......snotty bubblegum punk for the kids who like mellow trippy drugs....plenty of catchy weird songwriting and a kind of glam/psych take on garage rock that'll suck you right in......

so very highly recommended.....

LISTEN TO THE WHOLE ALBUM BELOW.......
and buy KING TUFF'S S/T LP on MAY 29th
at yer local record shop.......

scion a/v club GARAGE/PUNK SEVEN INCH SERIES

scion may or may not be encroaching on our beloved garage rock scene, but free music from our favorite bands is never a terrible thing.

so i guess we owe a thanks to scion for this singles series.......

as far a i can tell this is every release
in the scion a/v club garage/punk 7 inch collection......
(they have also released a few other rock, metal and hiphop singles, but that's less interesting....)

so click here to grab the first ELEVEN singles in the series......
(all grouped as one easy to download .zip file)

black lips / pierced arrows
cola freaks / digital leather

and  here to grab THE SPITS two 7 inches

(grouped as another .zip

the spits "haunted fang castle" ep
(which is quite weird)  the spits / dan melchior split

some of these singles are no longer available
for download at scion.......

so this might be the only place to grab these 7 inches.....

FREE garage rock @ the EMPTY BOTTLE THU 1/27

just RSVP here and yr good to go.

the HEX DISPENSERS are a fucking good time live, rowdy garage punk, fast and loud.......and KING TUFF's power pop garage will make you hum and/or dance for sure....... highly recommended.......

here's the write-up on the empty bottle's site....."It's hard to believe we've never played host to Austin's domineering pop perfectionists THE HEX DISPENSERS before. Last year they released a new LP via Douchemaster, Winchester Mystery House - it's an effort full of vigorous, infectiously-driven high-speed pop jams that combine earthshaking drums, slashing guitars and irresistible vocal hooks into an undeniable album. Tonight they're joined by KYLE THOMAS (of HAPPY BIRTHDAY)'s alter ego project KING TUFF. Vintage grungy punk with modern pop twists, KING TUFF kicks off tonight's fist full of fuzz explosion."
