OBITS have returned with a brand new LP out on SUB POP records entitled BED & BUGS, and it's as pummeling, razor sharp and righteous as anything they've done yet!!!!!!

rising from the ashes HOT SNAKES and EDSEL, OBITS for sure carry on the fiery POST PUNK menacing noise of those bands whilst melding it to their brand of off-kilter garage, punk and RnR.....and though i'm a fiend for their previous lps, I BLAME YOU and MOODY STANDARD AND POOR, their new album sneaks up on you with it's infectious melodies, wiry guitars, angsty vocals and all out insurgent rock n roll attack...... few if any rock bands have created such a unique and full throttle space for themselves like the OBITS.......

so stop talking about how good HOT SNAKES and DRIVE LIKE JEHU were and get with the program, cuz the new OBITS LP IS HERE TO MELT YER SKULL WITH SOME OF THE BEST ROCK N ROLL THAT YOU'LL HEAR ALL YEAR LONG......

METZ are Toronto's answer to a world obsessed with electronic music and pop star drivel....THAT IS THEY WANNA SMASH THEIR GUITARS OVER ALL THOSE NOT READY TO ROCK THIS HARD.......METZ harken back to those innocent days of the 90s when all i listened to was MUDHONEY, NIRVANA, DRIVE LIKE JEHU, SONIC YOUTH. FUGAZI and
SHELLAC tapes as i drove around town with my friends (hey we had nothing better to do).....

their post grunge guitar attack is chock full of aggro AM REP / TOUCH & GO sludgy vibes, noise rock dissonance, SST rambunctious post punk and DISHORD records style rule-breaking hardcore/post hardcore........  for fans of ANYTHING LOUD, RAW AND HEAVY, METZ's new S/T LP is FOR YOU.  this ain't no emo / wimpy indie rock......  Steve Albini and David Yow might just get RATTLED listening to their oh so CACOPHANOUS SCRAPPY rock n roll CHAOS......

when SUB POP heard their demos, they JUMPED at the chance to release their debut LP.  and they can't stop ranting about their new favorite canadian rock n roll destroyers - METZ play like one brutally heavy instrument with three heads, slashing heavy-gauge strings, bending guitar and bass necks in weird unison, along with what is probably the loudest drumming you’ve ever heard. It’s a return to everything that’s good about loud, ecstatic live music; a frantic nod to Nation of Ulysses, Shellac, The Pixies, The Jesus Lizard, and Public Image Ltd. at their most vicious, while still carving out some heavy new business. They play the instruments, the amps, and the room.

maybe why SUB POP is so stoked is that they haven't released an LP this awesome since last year's OBITS album (or that it's been a long time since SUPER FUZZ BIG MUFF came out.....mudhoney's and sub pop's best album, maybe even one of the best lps ever.....)

METZ s/t lp is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! 
one release that might just sneak onto many critics' year end lists......
          (perhaps even the one here at TINY GROOVES......)

king tuff - s/t lp (subpop)

KING TUFF is back with another solid lp of power popped mutant garage rock gems....and it's so good that it's doesn't need a title....and so fun, sub pop records jumped at the chance to release it...

king tuff has been kickin' around the country for the past couple of years, releasing a single here and there and playing some shows, but this is his first album since 2008's WAS DEAD, that's considered a classic to some folks like me......

we did get a lp via his other band HAPPY BIRTHDAY awhile back, but KING TUFF is quite the unique experience.......snotty bubblegum punk for the kids who like mellow trippy drugs....plenty of catchy weird songwriting and a kind of glam/psych take on garage rock that'll suck you right in......

so very highly recommended.....

no i'm not wishing tinygrooves happy brithday (though it's one year old now, kind of surprised myself that i've kept it going...), i'm talking about sub pop's latest indie stars, HAPPY BIRTHDAY.  

a vermont indie trio that mixes royal trux's blues skronk, pavement's slacker indie guitar work and 60s garage pop all into one.  one of my fav lps of the year, and it's not even out yet.  can't tell you how much i'll listen to this once i get my hands on the lp.  jump here to pitchfork to preview a track, or go to sub pop to pre-order yr new fav band.......

Featuring ex-Memphians NICK DIABLO (VIVA L'AMERICAN DEATH RAY MUSIC) and ALIX BROWN (LIDS, ANGRY ANGLES). A blast of blurry basement psych experimental-ish rock.   one previous hard to find ep and now a new lp out via sub pop's imprint hardly art.  tiny grooves highly recommends this lo-fi garage rock stomper.....
